What is a Probiotic? June 10, 2024 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Email By Megan Krahn, PAS We have been hearing the word “probiotic” and “microbiome” in the human health industry for a while now- but gut health is also extremely important for your livestock and pets. Probiotics are living microorganisms intended to maintain or improve the normal microflora in the body. In short, they are good bacteria to help support the immune system and overall health. A few things to consider when picking a probiotic: Are the bacteria alive? Can the bacteria withstand the manufacturing process? Can the bacteria withstand the stomach and make it to the hind gut if necessary? Do the bacteria present a health benefit? Are the bacteria offered at an appropriate & effective amount? Most species have probiotics available for them, reach out to your Insight FS feed specialist if you have questions on probiotics for your livestock and pets.
